Grimes' Green Smoothie

Nov 27, 2011 by Gabriel

Filtered water - 4 cups (cold)
Kale (curly, dragon, any kind!) - 1-2 leaves
Chard (I use Swiss - red, yellow) - 1-2 leaves
Baby spinach - 2 handfuls
Cilantro - 1 small bunch (purges mercury)
Cucumber - 1 whole (peeled tastes less bitter, with skin adds a lot of fiber) Lime or Lemon - 1 whole, peeled (remove the white pith/albedo)
OPTIONAL: (choose 1)
Green Apple - 1 whole, with skin
Banana - 1 peeled, not overripe
Watermelon - 1 cup
Berry blend - 1 cup (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry)
Blend above in high power blender, preferably a Vita-Mix or Blendtec.
Once blended thoroughly, add in:
Avocado* - 1 peeled (makes it smooth & creamy and adds in the good fat) *always add in last - you donʼt want to overblend the avocado
OPTIONAL:
  • Maca - 1/4-1/2 tsp. (for endurance, sex drive ;) and energy)
  • Vitamin D3 - 1-2 drops (I use Carlson Drops 2,000 IU--for immune system & energy) Most
of us are all deficient in Vitamin D and donʼt get daily direct sunlight. Read Dr. Mercolaʼs many articles on it. No adverse reactions or risk of toxicity even at 10,000 IU/day. In winter, we use 5,000-6,000 IU/day.

NOTE: All organic only, of course! :) There is no right or wrong way to do it -- only rule is use anything GREEN!! Some raw foodists will add fruit in, too. It definitely makes it more palatable, but alkavorians use only veggies so that it is alkaline. To start out, we added a cup of watermelon or a red ruby grapefruit (both borderline alkaline) to keep it from tasting too much like grass! :) Bananas make it taste the best and smoothest. (husband & kids like it best with the banana!) But again, it amps up the calories and sugar content. My kids have gotten used to it with one green apple--although not alkaline, it does make it taste tangy. Once you acquire the taste, you can go straight to the hard stuff -- fruit-free! :)
