Newfoundland

Here are a few of my impressions from my recent trip to St John's, Newfoundland.

The Newfies differentiate each other as either "Townies" or "Baymen". Townies are from St John's and Baymen are from everywhere else on the island.

They talk about moose as if there were as common as dogs.

The radio has 5 French speaking stations.

At a nouveau cuisine restaurant named Bacalao, that specializes in typical Newfoundland dishes, I enjoyed the following:

Jigs dinner
-Cabbage roll
-Peas pudding
-Mustard pickles
-Pot Liquor (the water stew left in the pot after boiling the cabbage and salted beef)

Moose
-Moose bourguignon
-Turnip greens
-Mash potato
-Corn

I can't wait to go again.
